On May 17th, Scottie Scheffler arrived at Valhalla Golf Club to participate in the second round of the 2024 PGA Championship. However, due to a prior traffic accident that resulted in the death of a tournament staff member, the police closed the road near the main gate of the golf course to investigate the scene.

When Scheffler drove up to the main gate around 6:12 a.m., traffic was congested. Officer Bryan Gillis attempted to direct Scheffler, but he did not cooperate and tried to drive on. During this process, Gillis was dragged on the ground, sustaining injuries to his left wrist and knee.

Officer Bryan Gillis failed to activate his body-worn camera throughout the entire incident involving Scheffler, violating department policy. As a result, he may face suspension pending the investigation.

After being released nearly 2.5 hours after his arrest, Scottie Scheffler addressed the incident: “This morning, I was following the officers’ instructions. Impact on PGA Championship

The prior traffic accident that resulted in the death of a staff member caused the organizers of the 2024 PGA Championship to postpone the second round of the tournament. This allowed Scheffler to still compete after being released. He scored -5 in the second round and finished the tournament tied for 8th place at -13.
